Essential reading

Boys Online

2010/01/20 13:39 | Alice | Celebrities, Lifestyle

I’ve been online, in the name of research you understand (no Townsend), and I feel the need to share. Call it therapy…

My eyes are watering a bit after chancing upon “another birds you can’t help fancying thread” on a website called fuk.co.uk, which is all about fashion, believe it or not. I would hate to be in the public eye if it meant Googling myself and seeing my name, or photo, appear in something like this. No doubt I could uncover far worse, but I have to say that the three hours I spent browsing this thread (I know, but it was FASCINATING) has taught me more about the male psyche than 20-odd years consorting with the bastards. Google it. Nothing good will come of it, but it’s quite a read.

On the Blog

2010/01/20 12:48 | Alice | Uncategorized

It’s been a while, but we’re finally back on the blog after a period of absence. Sorry if that sounds a little menstrual, it’s not intentional. Now I’m rhyming unintentionally (too much rap).

So 2010’s here - a new year and a new decade. This decade - like the last one - has no name, which is annoying. Bring on the 20’s. At least we can say it. I was never comfortable with the ‘noughties’.

Here at the salon, we’ve got the builders in (again) and are getting the place ship-shape. I’m starting to think Unruly is a bit like the Forth Bridge, or some high-maintenance Notting Hill woman in constant need of attention. Yeah, that’s more like it. It’s all good though, because we love our builders.

Thank you to everyone that filled out our customer service questionnaires over the last couple of months. The feedback was enlightening and we’re doing our best to make the improvements you want us to. Not that you complained about much. Cheers for that.

One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to keep this blog up to date. So check back, because you never know, you might just learn something good.

2008/11/11 17:04 | Michael | Style, Design, Fashion, Interiors

Someone in the know sent us this fancy little widget today. At the moment it’s a minuature e-magazine featuring loads of nice products for your house updated every week. You can easily stick it on your blog (like we have), install it on your Facebook profile or MySpace page or even upload it to your i-Google page if you have one. Apparently, this little gizmo is going to grow into a much bigger animal soon and you’ll even be able to make some moolah out of it. Rumour has it that you’ll be able to create your own Top 10 Design Products and publish them wherever you choose! Then watch your bank account as the profit share rolls in!

GLAM CRYSTALS

2008/07/11 07:01 | Natasha | Make-up

I have a make-up guinea pig, my friend Emma. Her make-up is always fabulous. She lives by the “more is more” rather then “less is more” when it comes to glitter and bright eye shadows. I’m always getting tips on products from her. The latest find is from Collection 2000 Glam Crystals Dazzling gel eyeliner from Superdrug. Since seeing them on Emma and working a long day with her, I saw that the eyeliner hadn’t shifted and still looked good. I deemed it worthy of my kit and immediately went to buy some for my kit (only £2.99). My favourite are Le freak and Night fever!

New York New York!

2008/05/10 22:00 | Natasha | Make-up

Wow, what can I say, love the place it’s so cool. Michael and I had a busy old time. I went for two days and manged to pack in a photoshoot, hang out with the lovely Amy - owner of Fringe salon and her cool team. It was great to meet some real New Yorkers. Did some serious make-up shopping. Ricky’s on Broadway was my fave, so many goodies, had everything you could possibly want to do with hair and beauty. Sephora and M.A.C were great too, so cheap! I was like a make-up mule walking through customs on the way home.

Summer Body

2008/05/10 21:46 | Natasha | Beauty

Sun has been out and my legs were day glow white, can’t remember the last time my legs and arms saw daylight so had a panic buy of fake tan. I was pleasantly surprised when i used L’oreals new Nutri Summer Body Expertise. It was easy to use, didn’t make me look like an Umpa Lumpea and smelt really nice, not the normal gerbal piss smell. It’s half price at Superdrug at the moment!

Aqua Colour

2008/04/03 15:54 | Natasha | Make-up

I’ve had a couple of jobs lately that I’ve needed to use body paints for. I love rediscovering the old school make-up of the theatre. Charles Fox in Covent Garden is an Aladdin’s Den of Kryolan neon aquacolor palettes, cream colours and beautiful Fardel loose glitters. As well as theatrical looks, I’ve been using the Aquacolor neon palette for cool feline eyes and bright lips for strong looks. The colours are solid and matte, which is really in at the moment, they are also water-based so wash off easily. Have a look at 125 Magazine there is an amazing beauty story by Rankin. Kylie is also working the look in her new video. The Fardel glitter is really fine so you can dab it on top of your eye shadow and it will not drop - it looks fab!

Orgasm in the Multiple

2008/03/05 13:51 | Natasha | Make-up

Finally Nars has brought out this wonderful blush “Orgasm in the Multiple” cream stick, slightly pricey at £27 but worth every penny. I have been using the powder blush for years and everyone I use it on wants to run out and buy some. This will have the same effect. When a find I shop that hasn’t sold out of the Nars multiple I will be stocking up on a few!

Matte Lipstick

2008/02/25 16:32 | Natasha | Make-up

I am enjoying the come back of matte lipstick and have used it on a few shoots. Worked on a music video a couple of weeks ago and used Glam by M.A.C. It looked amazing on Sarah, lead singer of Lazenby but when re-applied all day it’s sooo drying to the lips. So I lightly dabbed a tiny amount of balm to the the lips, blotting so as not to lose the matteness but keeping the pout. Before you put any lipstick on make sure your lips aren’t dry, Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream is my fave. If you’ve got flakey lips you can apply a fair amount of this cream and buff lips lightly with a babies tooth brush. Also making sure you’re drinking enough water will help. Try Russian Red and Glam by M.A.C for perfect glamorous lips.

John Galliano’s Crazy Fairies

2008/02/07 09:32 | Natasha | Make-up

I love Fashion Week, not for the clothes (sorry Drew) but for the fabulous hair and make-up. Thank God the “no make-up look” wasn’t on trend this time round! There were lots of bold and beautiful, if not a little twisted looks from Noki and Comme Des Garcons. Even Marc Jacobs embraced the bonkers with dragged through a bush backwards hair. My fave was Galliano’s fairies with spray painted gold pin curls and baby blues and pinks on the eyes and lips. Not to mention the spiky brows and lashes. The flapper girls looked amazing too with dark eyes and diamante encrusted lips. Looking forward to seeing what London comes up with!
